What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Founders Heritage Park Nelson is praised for its charming historical village recreation and its role as a community hub for events. Visitors enjoy the peaceful gardens and the onsite cafe. However, some feel it could be more interactive and better maintained, with additional costs for certain attractions being a point of contention.
"This is a really good place to spend a few hours in. The central point to the whole parlk is to recreate a page of Nelson's past as the early settlers would have known it. However there are lots of vintage vehicles to see, a cafe, a maritime museum, and windmill and more. This place is definitely worth a visit."
Bernard Savage
"From the get-go Gail at Reception is glowing with smiles, information and interesting stories. Upon entering the 'Village', it is just that! An extraordinary, working colonial village with a Montessori Kindy, a local community radio station FRESH FM 107.2 broadcasting a fabulous array of shows from Green Thumbs and Dirty Fingers gardening tips, A Women's World discussions issues effecting people on a global level to Local Music Students showcasing their original work. Directly across is a wholesome cafe/Bar with locally brewed craft beers, wine and deliciously healthy food.
There's a little museum, a Windmill, a Forestation and I believe even a small passenger train that takes people on a ride around the bay and back.
Look out for the events, shows or light extravaganza. There truly is a little something for everyone, Every time 🫶🏼
Photos are from the 'Illuminate' show. On every year and is a must see with fun and games for all ages 🤠"

"Very quiet and not much of anything to do - besides of course looking at the displays and the buildings. Cool things to see if you like history but wasn’t very interactive and a lot was closed. Definitely not worth the price. It has potential to be fun if there were real people in the shops all dressed up, things to buy (like in the general store having old candy, drinks, toys, whatever). The cafe was pumping and the playground is good for older kids. The rail cart/train costs extra which was disappointing as it’s the only interactive thing and you already pay to get into the park. The grounds (gardens and even the displays) were also not very tidy."
