What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Rangitata Rafts is highly praised for its exhilarating Grade 5 whitewater rafting, with many visitors highlighting the professionalism and skill of the guides, particularly mentioning Dillon. The stunning blue river and the opportunity to swim are also frequently cited as highlights. While the adventure is intense, most reviewers felt safe and well-cared for. The post-rafting BBQ and the comfortable lodge accommodation add to the overall positive experience.
"White water rafting was something I've been interested in doing for a long time. So, when I found that Rangitata Rafts was only an hour away from where we'd be staying in NZ, I jumped at the chance to book a time for my husband and me. But I must say that never having white-water rafted before, this was the thing I was most nervous about. Level-5 rapids...the highest that commercial outfitters are allowed to go down. I didn't take that lightly, and most people I talked to here in the US thought it seemed a little risky.
But, this turned out to be one of the best highlights of our entire trip. Dilly (Dillon) was such an amazing guide and for as nervous as I was before the excursion, I was never once afraid on the river. Dilly prepared our group well and he had so much experience and confidence navigating the river that I felt safe under his guidance. And going through the rushing part of the river was so much fun...sometimes I would just find myself laughing as water was gushing all around me. It was exhilarating, fun, challenging, and beautiful! The opportunity to not only see this amazing blue river, but be a part of it for a couple hours is an incredible experience not to be passed up.
I'm attaching a few photos and here's what I love about them (go ahead and pre-purchase the photos, you get a discount and you are going to want the memories). Often when we are going through the rapids, Dilly at some point would tell us to "hang on" or "hang on and get down," but while we are hanging on, Dilly was always actively stearing and guiding our little vessel.
I also loved the chance we had to swim and float down the river. I thought the BBQ afterwards (sausages, roasted potatoes, cole slaw) was delicious and filling.
Amazing guide. Amazing river. Amazing experience."

"So far the best rafting in New Zealand!
You are two full hours in the water and the raft goes from grade 2 up to grade 5! It's the highest possible commercial rafting grade in NZ and the guides are awesome."

"Stayed at Rangitata raftโs lodge for one night. Rose is a very professional host and her fast communication is highly appreciated. Very clean and cosy lodge. Good bedding and tidy rooms . We were group of 16 adults and 2 kids. Plenty of space for parking. The kitchen is large and have all cooking utensils. The showers and toilets are clean and good warm water supply. Good lounge and outdoor space. The BBQ grill is huge and gas operated ( the host kept nearly half cylinder gas for us however we bought a extra gas cylinder as we thought we may run out). There is no wifi but good cellular coverage on lodge area. Group really want to visit again ๐"
