This is a must do in Taupō🤩 👇🏻 📍Aratiatia Rapids The dam opens its sluice gates 4 times in summer, offering a free spectacle of nature and engineering! 🌊 Watch as liters of crystal-clear water fill the dam in just minutes. Choose from 3 viewpoints: ❌ On the dam wall (not our top pick) ✅ Mid Viewpoint or Top Viewpoint (8–15 min walk) 🚗 Arrive 20–30 minutes early – parking is available. Summer Ope...

Inland Track Option :evergreen_tree:

If tides are high, an inland track offers an alternative route. Reddit

Hot Water Beach in Taupō is a natural geothermal spot near the centre of town. Even on a winter day, this part of Lake Taupō steams from underground geothermal activity. Located near Waipahihi Bay, you can sink your toes into the sand where heat seeps through. Just be careful, as some spots can be hot enough to burn your feet. #lovetaupō #nzmustdo #newzealand #northisland #hotwaterbeach

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the stunning coastal scenery and immersive walk to Separation Point. The dramatic landscape and the unique experience of navigating tidal conditions are major highlights. However, some find the terrain challenging, especially at high tide, and advise caution and proper footwear.

"Went about 1.5 hours before high tide in the summer. I 100% recommend shoes with grip. It was the most beautiful beach and loveliest swim, but very precarious (slightly dangerous at times) coming back at high tide. Admittedly I was in a long dress and gym shoes with no grip. We had a great time and enjoyed the challenge, but just beware that there are some huge rocks to climb, banks to slide down, and stones to jump across, as well as a very steep ascent/descent on the high-tide path. Well worth it!"

Tyrie Kelly

"Very immersive walk, beautiful landscapes as always in the Abel Tasman national park! At high tide you could have to get your feet wet but the main part that gets underwater can be avoided via a inland track up the hill"

Marco Cavagnero

"Hi everyone,
The track has one part for the shoreline of the coast, and when it is high tide is a little bit dangerous. Maybe you should know the tide hours before."
