What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the stunning 360° views from Mount Tauhara, calling it a brilliant and rewarding hike. The varied terrain, from open pastures to a shaded forest, adds to the adventure. While the climb is steep and the summit can be windy, most agree the effort is well worth the incredible scenery.
"A brilliant walk, first part is through some fields which is quite a steep hike and then you hit rain forest type terrain where you follow a well worn pathway up to the top. Take lots of water, snacks and make sure you have good gripped walking shoes if not you will fall. The ground is very uneven and slippery in places, some areas have been so well warn other pathways have been formed around them, I went through one which was possible but I had to turn sideways to make it through. The top is very windy near the big rocks to be careful. A great walk, it took me about 1.5 hours to get to the top and then you can pretty much jog back down because its easier than walking in some areas."

"Yes, I really loved the hike and the views. We started around 9:30 and we were back by noon. Take your time, but footing is good even though there's much climbing involved. Our twenty minutes on top was very windy. Great views. Highly recommend"

"Hiking is quite new for us. That’s why decided that Mount Tongariro in winter time would be too much for us. We did this one instead. We started a bit late 3PM though. We only walked 1 hour up and decided to go back because of sunset. We don’t know how far we got. Half way? Two third? We enjoyed an open point in the woods before heading back though. We could imagine there will be a lot of mosquito’s in summer time. The path is quite unequal and small and not constructed. Therefore it is harder to climb/walk, but not undoable if you are fit. A local brochure marked this walk as 4 out of 5. I think that’s fair. I loved the views and adventure."
