Reviews Summary
Ometepe Island is celebrated for its stunning natural beauty, unique dual-volcano landscape, and adventurous spirit. Visitors rave about the incredible sunsets, refreshing natural pools, and the freedom of exploring by ATV or scooter. Some mention that certain areas can feel a bit run-down, but the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive.
"Good ride, reservation required is your taking a car. Good prices. We paid $13 for 2 and one car, each way."
Brenda Hogan
"Was going to go to Popoyo but I was recommended this place instead and I have no regret. Had an amazing time exploring the island with the ATV (safest option). Make it one of your stop if you're going to Nicaragua. The ferry ride is a about an hour from San Jorge. I took the small boat to go (can feel unsafe but we made it) and the big one (much more relax) to come back. They offer both rental services on and off (cheaper) the island."
André “drelikethelegend” Zamore
"I would spend one night only on this island, rent an ATV, go to the waterfall, explore around see the volcanos and come back the next day. There are cute little bed and breakfasts around, but just make sure you book your trip ahead of time so you can bring your car into the island."

Volcano Adventures: Concepción vs. Maderas
Maderas, the older and dormant volcano, is known for its lush cloud forest and a beautiful crater lake at its summit. Hiking Maderas is a different experience, often involving muddy trails and a chance to see unique flora and fauna, including ancient petroglyphs discovered along its slopes.
Both volcano hikes are significant undertakings and require preparation. Travelers often recommend starting early in the morning to avoid the midday heat and to allow ample time for the descent. Hiring a local guide is not only safer but also enriches the experience with local knowledge and stories.
Island Exploration: Getting Around Ometepe
When renting, ensure you have the necessary documentation (like a driver's license) and inspect the vehicle thoroughly for any existing damage. Nature's Oasis: Waterfalls and Wildlife
Beyond the waterfalls, the island is renowned for its capuchin monkeys and howler monkeys, which can often be spotted in the trees during hikes or while exploring the island by scooter.
