Reviews Summary

Visitors find Aulestad to be a historically significant and interesting site, offering a glimpse into the life of Nobel laureate Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson. The on-site cafe and charming Christmas market are highlights. However, some guests note the cost can be high and advise confirming English tour availability in advance due to potential schedule changes.

"The parking for the house is at the bottom of a drive and the walk is uphill. If you have a disability you can park up the hill in front of the red barn.
There is a cafe on site which serves cakes and light lunches. I had a toasted gluten-free sandwich and there's soup available.
I loved the house but sadly, the tour times are subject to change and on Sunday the 1.30pm English tour was cancelled so I went on the 1pm Norwegian tour rather than pass up the chance to see the house.
As I haven't any Norwegian, it was sad to hear the detail which the excellent guide went into without understanding anything she was saying. She asked me all through whether I had any questions and had allowed me to borrow the English guidebook before the tour, which was kind. But next time I may ask whether there's an English tour and if not, I'll come back the next day."
