"Drammen Town Hall, located centrally on Bragernes Square in Drammen, was designed by Niels Stockfleth Darre Eckhoff in the period from 1866 to 1871 when the building was completed. The town hall became part of an architectural whole together with Bragernes Church and the fire station. The Norwegian National Agency for Cultural Heritage described it in 1955 as a "monumental piece of urban art". The town hall was built of red hollow brick in a medieval castle style with a touch of Renaissance. It was given an architectural character that fit well with the church and the fire station. As the town hall was to provide space for granting authorities and the exercise of justice, it had to tower over the fire station so that the building could stand out as the most important. When the building was completed, it was to house premises for the police station, the conciliation commission, the council chamber, the chairman's office, the poor commission, prison cells, a prison yard, and a drawing school for craftsmen who were to take journeyman or master's certificates."
