Reviews Summary

Nykirken is a unique historical church, often called the 'Children's Cathedral,' known for its lively atmosphere and child-friendly decorations. While some visitors find its unconventional art and energetic vibe less appealing, many appreciate its historical significance and vibrant community spirit. The basement excavations add an interesting historical dimension.

"When we visited this was a high of activity with lots of children and adults and would’ve had to be a childcare Centre. It was lovely seeing so much joyful activity and singing in such an historic church. Nykirken, was originally consecrated as the Holy Trinity Church in 1622 and paradoxically earned its nickname due to its relative newness compared to older churches in the city. Over the centuries it has been reconstructed multiple times due to fires, including significant damage during World War II. I understand it is now no one as the children’s cathedral."

"VERY old historic church. Very interesting if you have a chance e to tour it."

"Don't bother! Went there on a tour & was racking my brains to find an escape route. After sitting in the cold damp basement looking at a pile of rubble, we were taken to view the church itself. The highlight (for they were very few) was the Archangel Gabriel flying with a pole up his ass, trumpet in one hand and a collection plate in the other that descended from above to pocket level. Made me realise that perhaps paganism was not so bad after all.....
No photos taken, it was that average."
