What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors are consistently impressed by the personal and informative tours, often led by the owners themselves, who demonstrate the fascinating craft of slate splitting. The opportunity to witness Northern Lights in a comfortable setting, complete with refreshments, is a major draw. While the cold can be a factor, the unique historical and artistic aspects of the quarry make it a highly recommended experience.
"I was pleasantly surprised by a tour of the slate quarry. The owners gave us the tour personally, talked about the history of the family and demonstrated how to split the slate (it was amazing in that the worker tapped 4 places with a chisel and it split perfectly). He then shaped a roof tile using three different tools from an old wedge to a power cutter. It's great to see craftsman at work making something seem so easy."

"If we could rate more than 5 stars, we would. Trond was our guide for our skiing day trip and he made it an unforgettable day on our honeymoon trip.
We were both beginner skiers so he took time to teach us the basics, helped us up when we fell (which happened a lot), took photos/videos of special moments, set up a bonfire with hot drinks and shared interesting stories of the local area and his work within the local slate industry. We saw some of his incredible work back at the museum - sandblasted slate art. Trond made our experience all the more richer and our only regret is that we didn't book more experiences with him. We will be back- thank you."
