"This historical site is an excellent destination for both children and adults. It is well-maintained by Tueneset Kystforening, which organizes educational events for schools and kindergartens.
During the Second World War, the German occupying forces built an extensive defense work along Europe's west coast, known as the Atlantic Wall. This was a defensive line that stretched from Finnmark in the north to Spain in the south and consisted of a long series of strongpoints. The purpose was to defeat an allied invasion.
The battery at Tueneset was the largest German coastal battery in Møre og Romsdal, both in firepower, number of structures, and area. The enclosed area covered approximately 850 acres. Work on the coastal battery began on July 24, 1940, and by September, the battery was ready for action. The main armament consisted of three 15 cm Armstrong cannons, which came from the old Norwegian battery at Gleodden in Kristiansand. These cannons had been delivered to the Norwegian coastal artillery around the year 1900. In May 1942, the Tueneset battery was equipped with four 8.8 cm anti-aircraft guns from the Luftwaffe. These were modern and highly effective. Additionally, there were several smaller anti-aircraft guns and various types of anti-tank guns. The area was surrounded by 7 minefields.
Construction work continued right up until the peace in May 1945.
