What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Reviews for Øra Nature Reserve are mixed, with many appreciating the natural beauty, especially the accessible bird tower and the eastern trail. However, a significant drawback for some is the pervasive industrial presence on the western side, which detracts from the 'nature reserve' feel. Boat owners find it a gem, but land visitors may find the industrial elements jarring.
"There is a nice bird tower (and it is wheelchair-accessible) overlooking the islands, and the trail on the East side starting at Rasteplass is simple enough and enjoyable with its views.
The problem with the West side of the area, is that nature has been de-prioritized in favour of industry. No matter where you are on the trail, you're only a few meters away from large warehouse buildings, enormous pumps/pipes, flashing lights, and strange smells -- it's very hard to believe that this is a "nature reserve." And there is apparently more industrial development on the way...
Even with the bird tower, you either need to walk the length of the trail just to get to it, or walk through private industrial roads (there are gates that prevent public entry via car).
Perhaps it was a beautiful area once upon a time. For now, this area could use a lot more attention and investment from the city/whoever to make it a nice spot to visit."
