What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the absolutely stunning, awe-inspiring views from Jabal Shams, often calling it the 'Grand Canyon of Oman'. The challenging summit hike is a major draw for adventurers, offering a profound sense of accomplishment. However, the trek is demanding and requires significant preparation regarding water, food, and gear.
"It is a long but very rewarding hike to the summit. The views of the canyons and wadis are amazing. There is quite a lot of vegetation. Start early in the morning, at sunrise. It took me 6h to go up and 4h to go down. Take plenty of water (I drank around 4lt), food, warm clothes and a torch with you. There is almost no shade available, keep that also in mind. It is a long walk, around 22km, so best attempted if you already have some alpine experience. The path is marked very thoroughly and there are reflecting pads for the night.
The military road is closed for cars, but you are allowed to walk on it. Look on Google Maps: there is a spot where the military road and the hiking path are very close to one another. This would be a good place to make the shortcut. For example if it is already dark on your descent.
Other than that, enjoy the trip! It is not an easy one but it will be worth it!"
