"This Kashmiri saint's tomb is located near Ichra in Lahore. We used to visit it often because it was located next to our aunt's house in Shah Jamal Colony of Lahore. I always loved the dhol or the drums played here, the dhamal or the sufi dance done here, the donkey races held here and the street food sold here. I recently revisited this shrine for TripAdvisor and found some great legends about this sufi mystic called Baba Shah Jamal. They say that this building, where he meditated, used to be seven floors high. A Mughal princess who used to lived nearby came and complained to the Sufi that his disciples invaded her privacy. So the Sufi started dancing on the roof of his building and kept on whirling till the building sank down to the present height and no longer overlooked the royal mansion. The other legend is about the death of the Sufi. They say that the building collapsed over him while he was medicating inside. His followers ran to save him but he ordered them to leave him buried inside the rubble as he wished to die in meditation. I really admire this pious man because he stood against Emperor Akbar when he started the new religion. Baba Shah Jamal was also famous for fighting for the cause of the Hindu Shudras or the low caste people. You should try to visit this shrine on a Thursday to see the action."
