"This is a historic building constructed in 1866 by the Britishers as the Town Hall for the city of Lahore. Today’s compound comprises of two buildings where both were built within 5 years of each other. Currently the building serves as a National Library which is not open to public and is only accessible to its members. The rules are strict and non members can only view the library from outside. The architecture is beautiful and reminiscent of the Anglo Indian construction style of the late 1800s. The building is located inside Bagh e Jinnah hence it has plenty of free parking and free outdoor access. Definitely worth a visit and a nice place to take photos."

Visitors often praise the library’s serene environment and impressive architecture. One reviewer noted, “It’s safe inside but getting to it requires going through the gardens. Plus there’s always too many people inside. It’s usually quite [quiet] but still not the most…” 
The library’s collection includes approximately a quarter of a million books in Arabic, Urdu, Persian, and English languages. However, access is restricted to its members, with about 17,000 current members. 
In December 2024, U.S. Ambassador Blome highlighted the library’s significance during the launch of the Lincoln Corner, stating, “This library is at the heart of Lahore. Sitting in the iconic Bagh-e-Jinnah, the building is not only beautiful, but an important center of knowledge and culture.”
