"President Juan Carlos Varela was so friendly that he greeted taxi drivers, the citizens, and tourists. He shook hands and took pictures with them in front of Palacio Bolivar as well. There was only one gentleman dressed in plain clothes standing at a distance next to him while three uniformed policemen watched about two cars away."

"The Bolivar Palace is part of a former monastery built by the Franciscans in the late 17th century. Throughout its history, the monastery also served as the headquarters of the First Panama Battalion and a hospital. Falling into ruin, the building was acquired by the Jesuits in the 1880s and remained in use for the next 85 years. In 1903, after Panama's independence from Colombia, the monastery hosted the first meeting of the Constituent Assembly, and in 1904, the first Constitution of the Republic of Panama was written. In the 1950s, the San Agustin School began operating here, followed later by the Bolivar Institute. Since 2003, the palace has housed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs."
