The walk from Hidroeléctrica to Aguas Calientes is a scenic and budget-friendly alternative to the train, offering a jungle trek along train tracks. While generally safe and beautiful, travelers emphasize the importance of vigilance around trains and suggest an early start to avoid heat and crowds. The journey is considered a worthwhile part of the Machu Picchu experience.
"They way to aguas calientes from hidroelétrica Is pretty average, I mean, it is cool to walk through the jungle on the train tracks(be careful though, as an amateur I wore earbuds for a moment and could've got ran over) towards the famous city of Machu Pichu.
You gonna walk for about 2 to 3 hours on a pretty flat ground, passing by a couple of vendors and also one or two water sources/rivers, pretty much 90% of it on thick gravel and almost fully covered by the trees.
Getting to the city makes the effort worth it and I recommend trying to do this way as early as possible if you haven't bought your tickets in advance.
For you way back, if you're not taking the train, try to do it as early as possible; the buses back to Cusco levar till 14:00 (they're not that punctual though) and take about 7 hour to get to Cusco so be prepared for a slow and boring ride."
