"!!For tourists!! The plan is to take a ship from the Eduardo fleet to Yourimaguas.
The ships depart from here almost daily. But it's almost impossible to get any real information about when the next ship departs. It always says on a notice board on the ship that it departs at 5:00 a.m., but you can't rely on that.
You also don't get any information about whether a ship departs the next day.
You can only go to the port on a whim, board the ship that's in the harbor, and hope that it departs soon. That's what we did.
It cost us 100 sols, but we were charged 120 sols per person.
There are many different ships and different cargoes they carry, so it's difficult to estimate the travel time. For us, it took four days and four nights. But there are also faster ships that take three days.
There was food three times a day, which was included in the fare. Mostly, there was porridge in the morning, rice with noodles and chicken for lunch, and soup in the evening.
Unfortunately, we only had one toilet with a shower on board, so there were sometimes long waits for the toilet.
The tap and shower only use river water. We don't know exactly which water is used for cooking, but we didn't have any stomach problems. We didn't eat everything, though.
What you need when boarding:
Towel, soap, a toilet bowl, toilet paper, a hammock, a small blanket (it can get a bit chilly at night), enough water for drinking and brushing teeth, and snacks for the journey.
Some things can also be bought on site, but the selection isn't extensive. It's better to stock up beforehand. We managed to fit two backpacks, two regular bags, our hammocks, and our shopping onto a tuk-tuk and went there.
We were also often advised to keep an eye on our belongings on board. We didn't have any bad experiences. The people were all very friendly and interested, but very few spoke English. It was difficult because Google Translate didn't work on the trip. But everything worked out.
(Tip: translate most things beforehand and then take a photo.)
We tied our backpacks together in travel bags and secured them with cable ties so they weren't easy to open. We slept in the hammock with our most important things.
The ship stops occasionally to unload cargo. This gives you the opportunity to restock on drinks or food. There are also frequent vendors on board selling small snacks.
We almost never had internet on the way unless you passed through a larger city. Our provider was Claro.
We thought it was a great experience and would do it again. The sunsets and the nights in the hammock were very beautiful. And it allows you to get very close to the locals."
