"We spent two weeks in Peru; one week in Cusco hiking the Inca trail, and one week exploring the less visited north of Peru. Our group, consisting of both birders and non-birders, agreed that Huembo Lodge was one of our favorite places we stayed! While the accommodations at Huembo are more rustic than some of the other hotels at which we stayed, they are very clean and well kept. The showers even had hot water, which was a luxury not experienced at many of our other lodges. The family who maintains the facility was extremely kind and helpful. Every meal they prepared for us was delicious, local, cuisine. The grounds are extremely peaceful, with beautiful views that overlook the mountain valley. We spotted dozens of birds that we had not seen in any other part of our trip - including the marvelous spatula-tail hummingbird! We had one male, with his full beautiful tail feathers, spend the entire day at one of the feeding stations. If you find yourself in the north of Peru, this lodge should be a must stay. We hope to visit again some day!"
