To the south and west, it is close to the Jatanca plains. It is part of the Peruvian and Yungas dry forest ecosystems. It is a private conservation area with dry carob forests up to 8 meters high amidst golden dunes. Cañoncillo is located in the district of San Pedro de Lloc, on the left bank of the Jequetepeque River.
