QuestionWant to go to Puerto Maldonado/Tambopata. What lodge/tour should I go with?
Looking to go for a 3 day/2 night or 2 day/1 night tour into the amazon. Would like something fun, with guides that know what they're talking about. I'm 25 if that means anything and I'll be going alone. I don't want to break the bank so I won't be going to TRC. Ideally…

Peru Puerto Maldonado Lodges Recommendations.
Currently looking at Sandoval Lake Lodge and Chunco lodge both in the Tambopata Reserve. Has anyone had good experiences at either? Comfort and quality of tours/guides are the most important. But the price of the higher end lodges are not doable. Thanks!
Help traveling to the amazon rainforest in Peru
I’m planning an 11 day trip to Peru and would love to spend at least 2 day in the Amazon. Obviously the plan is to fly down from Cusco… but for anyone who has gone where did you stay / find tours and transportation? Any other general advice would be cool too! :)
Bug Protection is Key
Despite efforts, insects are present. Pack strong repellent. :bug:
Hydrate Constantly
The Amazon heat can be intense. Drink plenty of water, especially during excursions. :droplet:
Those who have been to the Amazon Rainforest, what did you do?
I was looking into a travel package since they seem more comprehensive but I’m curious which ones are the best and how expensive they are. Considering a 7 to 10-day summer trip in early July. Flights to Manaus are extremely affordable from my city but open to other options.

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently rave about Sandoval Lake as an incredible Amazonian experience, highlighting the abundant wildlife, knowledgeable guides, and delicious food. The immersive jungle setting and the chance to see creatures like giant river otters are major draws. Some minor discomforts, such as firm beds or occasional insect presence, are noted but rarely detract from the overall positive sentiment.
"This was one of the best experiences of my life. Taking a boat and a hike to get through to our hotel, we were greeted by hot towels and fruit juice. We entered our wonderful rooms. I wasn't thrilled by the pillows - they are too soft and the beds are a little too hard. I ended up having to use my travel pillow to support my beck. Regardless, the bathrooms were nice and we were served 3 fantastic meals that day.
Our tour guide too took us on a boat ride and a walk through the jungle in order to find wildlife. He seemed very aware and very observant of all that was going on in the jungle and ecosystem. After spending a good day there, I felt like I was left with a good view of how the Amazon worked and the biodiversity there.
With bugs - there were only 2 roaches and hardly any bugs nor lizards. They must actively spray the area or do something to keep the bugs from coming in, because we never saw them. The hammocks too were okay, but they were a little hard on the back and after a while - I stopped laying in them. My shoulders hurt too much from them.
Lastly, we left too late in the day around 1 pm, causing us to make it way too close to our flight. The heat of the Amazon is terrible around this time in the afternoon, and I nearly passed out even though I was drinking water. I would have rather our guide have taken the necessary precautions and left earlier!
On a whole, I would say that I enjoyed my experience and would like to come back and see more of the area."

"Incredible experience in the Amazon rainforest relatively close to Puerto Maldonado. Sandoval Lake Lodge could not be more perfect. The food is excellent, the accommodations are comfy, the staff is incredible. Our guide was a fountain of knowledge about the history, culture, flora and fauna of the region."

"Enchanting place with pancakes that taste great without syrup or butter! Excellent staff, and wonderful guides for giving you a realistic, informative tour of the Peruvian Amazon. The first night was a bug-themed tour, and it really helped set the tone for how many insects we'd be dealing with during our 5-day stay. This place felt like home for the time we stayed here, with hot tea, lounge for game nights, and hammocks for decompressing. Similar to most remote hotels, the water is hot in spurts & there's a continuous battle to keep insects out (but due to ceilings being shared across room compartments, nothing was really isolated & if bugs got in, they'd travel from room to room). Overall a great little spot in the wild - expect to do lots of walking, wear closed-toed shoes to protect from leaf cutter ants, and expect to get muddy!"
