What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Fort Santiago for its well-preserved historical significance, particularly its connection to Jose Rizal and its atmospheric dungeons. The presence of friendly community cats adds a unique charm. While some find the historical markers could be improved, many recommend guided tours for a richer experience.
"Me and my partner visited Fort Santiago in Intramuros and it was one of the highlights of our Manila trip. The place is very well-preserved and full of history, especially with its strong connection to Dr. Jose Rizal. We enjoyed walking through the old stone gates, exploring the dungeons, and strolling around the gardens which gave a peaceful contrast to the historical atmosphere. The Rizal Shrine inside was very informative and allowed us to learn more about the country’s national hero. We also appreciated that the grounds were clean and organized, with plenty of spots for photos and relaxation. Visiting here truly felt like stepping back in time and gave us a deeper appreciation of Manila’s heritage. Highly recommended for anyone who loves history and culture."

"Great historical site and park. A generally quiet and peaceful space (unless there is a huge tourist/ student tour group). Also houses a small Rizal museum inside. There are historical markers but it's not enough or some are not in good/ readable condition. So it's best to join a walking tour for better appreciation of Manila culture and history. Clean bathroom and few concessionaires/ shops near the entrance only."

"If you love cats and history, this is the perfect place.
While walking around Fort Santiago, you’ll meet adorable community cats that are cared for by kind volunteers. They are friendly, photogenic, and fun to watch.
It’s heartwarming to see how loved they are. Some will come close for pets, while others enjoy relaxing in their favorite spots. 💓
Tip: Bring your camera and take lots of cute photos. You can also ask the volunteers if you want to help or donate.
Cats and history make a purrfect day. 🐾❤️"
