What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
SM By the Bay is a popular seaside leisure spot offering open spaces for relaxation and entertainment. Visitors appreciate the sunset views, the variety of dining options, and the amusement park rides. However, some find the bay odor and midday heat to be drawbacks, and the views can be limited. It's best enjoyed during cooler parts of the day, especially for its scenic beauty.
"SM By the Bay is a decent spot to chill and take a walk, especially if you just want open space after being inside the mall—but manage your expectations.
What’s good:
Plenty of room to stroll, sit, and unwind after shopping or dining.
Best moments are really the sunrise and sunset—golden light, sea breeze, and a nice, calm vibe if you catch it at the right time.
Lots of casual food options around and easy access back to the mall if you need AC or a quick break.
What’s not so great:
On many days, mabaho talaga—the bay smell can be strong, especially when it’s hot or the wind is still.
Mainit at kulang sa lilim mid-day; shade is limited, so standing around doesn’t feel relaxing.
Wala masyadong view beyond the water and passing boats; if you’re expecting scenic coastline or city skyline shots, you might be underwhelmed.
Pro tips:
Come early morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat and catch the best light.
Bring water/umbrella/cap, and plan a quick cool-down inside the mall after your walk.
If you’re here just to wait for a moment worth seeing, sunrise or sunset are the only times I’d recommend.
Bottom line:
A good place to chillax if you time it right, but be ready for the heat and occasional smell. For me, it’s worth a stop only for the sunrise/sunset window—outside of that, there isn’t much of a view and it can get uncomfortably warm."

"We came here purely for the sunset, and we found a good spot to get some shots of it. My companion found some good shooting opportunities and captured the life and activities on the baywalk - the amusement rides, families enjoying themselves, etc. It gets super crowded though, and we were there on a Saturday which made it worse. And when we went into the mall (SM Mall of Asia), the crowd and noise levels were overwhelming. Might be better on a weekday."

"We had a nice walk in the evening when its not so hot! Lots to see and do plenty of things to eat and drink nice way to spend a couple of hours"
