While some mention ongoing maintenance, the church's originality and beauty are consistently highlighted.

"With its detailed façade and beautifully designed retablo, this church evokes the early days of Christianity in Ilocos Norte, where Augustinian friars masterfully blended holiness with artistic grandeur. Stepping inside, one immediately feels a deep sense of reverence, enhanced by the church’s well-preserved heritage.

At the center of the main retablo stands St. Nicholas of Tolentino, a powerful symbol of faith. The traditional mass altar remains intact, flanked by the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary in the low mass altars, preserving the church’s historical charm.

A particularly moving feature is the low mass altar of Our Lady of Lourdes on the right side of the church. Here, visitors and locals alike venerate a first-class relic of St. Nicholas of Tolentino, adding to the church’s deep spiritual significance.

A truly sacred place where devotion and artistry come together, offering a profound experience for pilgrims and history enthusiasts alike."

"It’s amazing how the Agustinians built this huge church more than 400 years ago. As the first church in Ilocos Norte. Not restored, you enjoy it’s originality. Although the patron is not anymore in the list of saints, it still attracts devotion to its patron saint and admiration towards the missionaries of St. Augustine."

Am Mijares

"This church witnessed our family receive the sacraments of matrimony, baptism, confirmation, penance and we are blessed to consider this our Church. It has withstood the test of time, violent typhoons and earthquakes and has also undergone renovations through the years but the its sacredness and beauty remain. We always make a point to hear mass here while in San Nicolas."
