Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the Cata-al War Museum, highlighting the owner's incredible passion and deep knowledge of WW2 history. It's a highly personal and educational experience, with many spending hours listening to stories. While the collection is impressive, some artifacts are exposed to the elements, and it's a private donation-based site rather than a formal museum.

"Mr. Felix is one of the most passionate when it comes to War History. It was my daughter's 3rd time to visit this place since she love history. Great collection. One of the best place to visit in Dumaguete"

Claw Master

"This place does not require a ticket to enter, but I encourage people to donate so Mang Felix can continue maintaining the place. At first he was silent but when I asked about the ampules displayed, he willingly answered, quizzed us about random stuff and told the story about Santa Claus ad who originally came from Pepsi Cola but transferred to Coca Cola (he does have a proof for you to see).
He also showed his 2000 peso commemorative banknote.
He reminds me of Joey de Leon, the way he tells jokes and how he, being a historian, knows a ton of things.
The museum is not enclosed, so some artifacts are being exposed to natural elements, which I hope they can address to preserve them longer."

Sherwin Ferreria

"My partner liked it a lot for someone who’s into WWII. It’s more of a man’s collection than a museum. Feels personal. We had a great time!"

A Glimpse into Philippine WW2 History

Negros Island played a crucial role in World War II, serving as a site for numerous infantry battles between Japanese and US forces. The Cata-al War Museum offers a tangible connection to this often-overlooked chapter of Philippine history. The collection includes a wide array of personal effects, weaponry remnants, and other artifacts that paint a vivid picture of the war's impact on the local population and landscape. Reddit

Mr. Cata-al's collection is particularly significant because many items were discovered locally, providing a ground-level perspective of the conflict. He has meticulously documented his findings and is eager to share this knowledge. The museum serves as a vital educational resource, especially for younger generations, helping them understand the sacrifices made and the importance of peace. Reddit

While the museum is not a formal institution, its value as a repository of local history is immense. The fact that it's an open-air collection means some artifacts are exposed to natural elements, a point of concern for preservation but also a reminder of the raw, unfiltered nature of history.
