What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Jewish Cemetery a unique and moving historical site, appreciating its dramatic atmosphere created by weathered headstones and the striking Moorish Funeral Ceremony House. While not meticulously maintained, this contributes to its poignant and mystical ambiance, especially during autumn performances.
"The Jewish community in Bielsko-Biala is a fraction of what it once was, and as a result the cemetery is not tended as carefully as might otherwise be the case. This is a shame culturally, as the Jewish influence in the city has a historical importance, but aesthetically it makes for a more dramatic environment - the crumbling headstones, those covered by the grass, flowers sprouting here and there... it's really rather moving, in a way that is sometimes not the case in the tidier, more carefully preserved cemeteries."

"The cemetery is clearly well-maintained. Oils have been offered, but most of the tombstones are already crumbling or have long since fallen over. Visiting is only possible on specific days and hours, so it's worth making sure you arrive when it's open. People are free, so you can easily walk to each resting place and see who is resting there."

"A unique place on the city map. Wrested from oblivion. Worth it."
