"Gdańsk Główny is the city’s main railway station and a striking example of Neo-Renaissance architecture, originally built between 1894 and 1900. Following a major renovation completed in 2023, the station now combines historical charm with modern amenities.  

The station operates 24/7 and includes essential services such as ticket offices, luggage storage, restrooms, and a waiting area. Additional facilities include a currency exchange office, ATMs, and free Wi-Fi. For dining, there are fast-food options like McDonald’s and KFC, as well as nearby cafes and bakeries.  

Located at Podwale Grodzkie 1, 80-895 Gdańsk, the station is well-connected to public transportation, with tram and bus stops just outside. An underground passage links the station to the bus terminal and provides easy access to the Old Town, which is approximately a 10-minute walk away.  

Travelers should be aware that while the station is generally safe, it can become crowded during peak hours. It’s advisable to arrive early for your train and keep an eye on your belongings. The station’s recent modernization has improved accessibility, with elevators and escalators now available. 

Overall, Gdańsk Główny offers a blend of historical elegance and modern convenience, making it a pleasant starting point for exploring the city or continuing your journey through Poland."

"I have not taken the train service but rather went there to see the outside and inside of the building which was quite impressive. There were some empty halls of which I did not understand and they were behind close doors but the architecture was beautiful."

"Gdańsk Główny is a visually stunning train station with beautiful historic architecture and a strong sense of old-world charm. It’s a great first impression when arriving in the city or passing through—but unfortunately, the functionality didn’t quite match the aesthetics during our visit.

The biggest issue was the lack of clear signage. All of the electronic screens were off, making it impossible to figure out which train to take to get to Gdynia. We had to go to a ticket booth to ask for help, and while the attendant did speak English, she spoke very quickly and with a thick accent, which made it hard to understand the instructions.

Ultimately, we had to exit the station, go around the outside of the building, down a staircase, and through several hallways to find the correct platform. It wasn’t intuitive at all and would be especially difficult for first-time visitors or those not familiar with the Polish train system.

With some improvements to signage, clearer directions in multiple languages, and working information screens, this station could offer a much smoother experience to match its beautiful design.

That said, if you have time to spare and aren’t in a rush, it’s worth admiring the building’s impressive exterior and clock tower—it’s a piece of Gdańsk history."
