"This part of Gdańska has undergone an amazing change over the last years. It is worth checking out and spending some time there in local restaurants. It is a place where modern architecture mingles with the old."

"Motlawa river is the main attraction and must visit place of Gdansk. Its right at the center of the city that we wouldn't miss it anyway. There are quite few museums like National maritime and Soldek ship museums right here. Giant wheel, kids play area are all here. Lots of shops, restaurants are here and its one place in Gdansk which would be lively even during late hours.

Pirate ship cruise starts from here and Zegluga ferry to Westerplatte, Sopot and Hel also is here near to Green gate entrance. We can just watch the river, cruise activities and spend our time here easily without getting bored."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Historic Gdańsk Crane (Żuraw)

The Gdańsk Crane (Żuraw) is an undeniable emblem of the Motława Embankment and a testament to Gdańsk's rich maritime history. Dating back to the 14th century, this impressive structure served a dual purpose: it was a vital piece of port machinery capable of lifting heavy cargo up to 11 meters high, and it also functioned as a waterside city gate. Its unique design, powered by humans walking inside large wooden wheels, is a fascinating glimpse into medieval engineering. Reddit

Today, the Crane is maintained by the National Maritime Museum and offers visitors a chance to step inside and see the original wooden wheels. An exhibition within the Crane details the work and daily life of port workers from the 16th to 18th centuries, providing a vivid historical context. It's a must-visit for anyone interested in Gdańsk's Hanseatic League past and its significance as a trading hub. Reddit

Pro-tip: Visiting the Crane offers not only historical insight but also excellent vantage points for photographing the river and the surrounding Old Town. The interior, with its exposed wooden mechanisms, is particularly atmospheric. Reddit

These trips allow you to see Gdańsk from the water, appreciating the blend of old and new architecture along its banks. Reddit

Traveler Tip: Booking your boat tour in advance is highly recommended, particularly during the busy summer months, to ensure you get your preferred time slot. Consider a sunset cruise for a truly magical experience as the city lights begin to twinkle. Reddit
