What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Dom Śląski Mountain House is a functional, no-frills stop for hikers in the Karkonosze Mountains, particularly those heading to Śnieżka. While its location is strategic, reviews frequently cite significant issues with cleanliness, especially in the bathrooms, and inconsistent food quality and service. Accommodation is basic and cramped.
"Had a pitstop here on our way to Śnieżka. The restaurant was overcrowded and it was hard to find any space inside. It took about 40mins to get some fast food snacks. The condition of the WCs leaves much to be desired and you need cash to get there. Fortunately, the staff at the bar helped to get us cash using their terminal."
Victoria Smelova
"Served food was bad, fries and fried cheese were bland and had terrible texture, salad had old ingredients in it and tasted awful, toilets are dirty and even when you order food you have to pay for it and it only takes 1 and 2zł coins. Overall place is dirty and service is unpleasant."
Michal Bryks
"The general low rating is caused by extremely dirty bathrooms and toilets. There are two showers for everyone. I slept in a room with 7 bunk beds packed so tightly that a swift emergency exit would be close to impossible (You can’t open windows fully due to the bunk beds). I remember this room was meant for 7 persons. This shelter has been on a downfall for years."

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Consider the timing of your visit carefully. Visiting during off-peak hours or weekdays might offer a slightly less crowded and potentially more manageable experience. If your goal is simply a brief rest stop for snacks before continuing a hike, it can serve its purpose, but be prepared for the basic conditions.
💰 Budget Travelers
For day-trippers, it's a place to grab a quick, albeit potentially disappointing, bite or drink. Bringing your own food and water is a smart way to save money and ensure you have something palatable. The main 'cost-saving' aspect is its strategic location, saving you time and potentially extra travel if you're already hiking in the area.
🚶 Solo Hikers & Trekkers
Be prepared for the practicalities: carry enough cash for facilities, and don't expect high-speed Wi-Fi or luxurious amenities. The hostel's value lies in its location and its role as a functional hub for mountain exploration. Safety is paramount; always let someone know your itinerary and be aware of your surroundings.

Navigating the Mountain Trails
Local advice often suggests starting hikes early to avoid crowds and potential afternoon storms. The trails are generally well-marked with colored blazes, but it's wise to familiarize yourself with the route beforehand. The hostel itself is a functional stop, so don't expect extensive services beyond basic food and lodging. The primary draw is the access it provides to the stunning mountain scenery and challenging hikes.
Accommodation and Facilities
If you're looking for a comfortable overnight stay, this might not be the ideal choice. However, for trekkers who prioritize a roof over their head and a place to sleep before an early start, it serves its purpose. It's essential to manage your expectations regarding comfort and amenities. Bringing your own sleeping bag and earplugs is often recommended by seasoned travelers.
Dining and Refreshments
Payment can be another hurdle, with cash often being the preferred or only accepted method for smaller transactions, including toilet usage. While some staff might assist with card withdrawals, it's not guaranteed. Many visitors suggest bringing your own snacks and water as a backup, especially if you have dietary preferences or concerns about food quality.
