What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Osowiec Fortress for its impressive historical significance and the dedication of its guides. The opportunity to explore a well-preserved 19th-century fortress and its surrounding nature is a major draw. However, the restricted access for foreigners and limited on-site amenities are noted drawbacks.
"Nice 5 mile hike in area woodland with vistas and smaller bunkers. Can see small river and swans. There are a few lookout spots where you can see small river and bunkers in the distance. Get to see destroyed bunkers. I guess the main site is still an active military base of some kind and is off limits to non citizens of Poland."

"Mirek Worona - amazing, young at heart man, whose passion and commitment ignited a flame, which saved this incredible place for future generations, was our guide during the trip. Vast knowledge, complimented by a rare skill of relaying a chunk of it to us, tourists, with ease, is a treasure trove of history, that thanks to him and people he inspired, will not be forgotten. If you are within driving distance of Osowiec during summer months do take the trip and be amazed by the imposing structure itself and meticulously restored artifacts at the museum. Thousands of lives perished here, but the fortress itself survived, despite tons of pyroxylin being detonated inside its chambers - a testament to its construction. There is a donations box at the museum, so please give generously, as this is purely a non-profit organization. Hopefully, the surrounding structures, including the Zarzeczny Fort will become available to tourists as well one day, along with expanded services catering for visitors from abroad. It is partially a military area, so access is restricted, but hopefully, full potential of this place will become apparent to the local Government soon as well and fully realized therafter.
