"Pałac pod Główami in Szczecin at pl. Żołnierza Polskiego 2 - a classicist building from the end of the 18th century, consisting of two buildings joined together in 1889.
From 1889 until the end of World War II, the palace served the military authorities.
After post-war reconstruction, in 1958 it was handed over to cultural institutions.
The western part currently houses the Club of 13 Muses (founded by Gałczyński during his short stint in Szczecin), and the eastern part houses the Museum of Contemporary Art, a branch of the National Museum in Szczecin.
The name of the palace comes from the nine heads decorating the tops of its windows. Before World War II, the heads of ancient heroes were visible in the lintels of the first floor windows. During the post-war reconstruction (and subsequent renovation), instead of ancient busts, the heads of Szczecin people associated with culture were placed (Władysław Filipowiak, Zofia Krzymuska-Fafius, Stefan Kwilecki, Jan Papuga, Bohdan Skłodowski, Janina Kosińska-Brzozowska, Józef Barecki, Antoni Huebner, Józef Gruda). In this way, their creator, Sławomir Lewiński, wanted to emphasize the still young Polish nature of the city. Inside the building, the original stuccowork has been preserved in several rooms."
