"The central point of the Old Town, the main square of Toruń with dimensions of 109 x 104 m. In its center is the building of the Old Town Hall.
The Old Town Market Square was laid out in 1251, when a decision was made to expand Toruń to the north-west[2]. Initially, the main point of the city was the square, currently occupied by the cathedral church (formerly the Old Town parish church).
In the interwar period, mainly merchants lived near the Old Town Market Square, until around 1932, officials began to dominate the residents of the Market Square. At the initiative of merchants, a tram line running through the Market Square was built in the interwar period.

In the most representative point of the market square – in its western frontage (also called the tournament square), all kinds of special events were held.
