What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Museum of Art ms1 for its engaging modern art exhibitions and the incredible value offered by student discounts and free Friday admissions. The helpful staff and unique features like the 'neoplastic' room are frequently highlighted. However, some find the lack of permanent exhibits and the nature of certain temporary displays disappointing.
"I'm a person who appreciates artistic designs and art in every form. I truly loved this museum because it is enriched with so many interesting art forms and not just only paintings. It's far better than MS2 Art Museum (Currently, no art nothing but just a room full of dices). Yet, it's unbelievable as to how so many people are complaining about MS1 museum here.
Earlier, they had Wednesdays as a free admission day but now it's Friday - something that I wasn't aware of so I bought tickets to both the museums.
Another important point, if you're a student, you can buy a discounted ticket for just 1 zloty which can let you enter MS1, MS2 and Herbst Palace, isn't that amazing? In my opinion, all students must grab this opportunity because you'd love Herbst Palace and MS1 Art Museum even if MS2 disappoints you! Purchased tickets are valid for 2 days for all 3 museums.
I truly enjoyed spending my time here. If you're an art enthusiast like me, it will take you 3-4 hours to check every piece of art and read the information. There are texts in both Polish as well as English just so you know as it's so important to understand what you're seeing, especially, if you don't know Polish. Besides, staff members are co-operative, polite and professional. They will guide you to every single room even when you miss it. Ask them questions and they'll be glad to answer you.
I personally liked Weronica who was so friendly and helpful. Even though she couldn't speak English, her readiness to help me was impressive! She clicked my lovely photos on a personal request and also unlocked the door to the glass-stained art staircase which was locked as the closing hour was approaching. I might have missed such a gem of an art if she didn't let me know about it. I will always remember her. ❤
Regarding people complaining that staff members follow them wherever they go - in my humble opinion, it doesn't mean that they think of you as a thief but they're just doing their duty for what they're being paid.
Bonus, there is a cute little café decorated in artistic way where you can grab a coffee and relax for a while because you'll definitely need to take a break in between as there is a lot to explore on every floor (elevator available).
Lastly, I got an art book for free from the lovely lady at the ticket booth (on the ground floor). You also have the access to a reading room which is on the top floor."

"The MS1 is a modern art museum located in an old palace. Temporary exhibitions are located on a few floors and showcase Polish artists. Some impressive pieces and installations worthy of checking out. Take note, it’s possible to buy a ticket that lets you into MS1, MS2 and the Herbst Palace. Visiting the museum could take an hour or longer. There’s an inner courtyard with brightly colored seating. Highly recommend."

"This is by far the worst of the nearly 100 museums I have visited all over Poland. They have no permanent exhibits, only 3 temporary ones, and for each they wanted 20 zloty. I looked at the brochures and each one looked worse than the other, but since I was already there I figured I might as well see at least one of them, so I picked the one that looked the least bad (a show by an artists' collective from Vietnam). It was ugly and pointless, and one video exhibit showed explicit pornography. It was a waste of an afternoon and taxi rides."
