One of the most famous events in the cathedral’s history occurred in 1971 when witnesses reported that an image of the Virgin Mary shed tears. Thousands of people visited the site, believing it to be a miraculous event. However, communist authorities quickly intervened, removing the image and trying to suppress the news. Despite this, devotion to the Virgin Mary remained strong.
Today, the cathedral continues to be a major spiritual and historical site in Poland. It hosts religious celebrations, attracts pilgrims, and stands as a symbol of faith and resilience in the city of Łódź."

In 1898, an open international architectural competition was announced. 38 projects from almost all over Europe were submitted. The winner was the project of the Lodz company "Wende i Zarske".
