What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Carapacho Thermal Baths offer a potentially free and relaxing thermal soak with a beautiful ocean setting. While historically a beloved local spot, recent operational inconsistencies due to private concessions have led to some disappointment. Visitors recommend confirming pool status and enjoying the adjacent ocean pool regardless.
"A relaxing soak in the pool to shake off a travel day.
Admission is free and you are allotted 30 minutes in the pool.
Recommend a quick dip in the ocean post soak."

"The spa pools are closed and it does not appear they will open anytime soon. We were very sad because we were really looking forward to spending time here. It seems the Portugese government has passed control of the spa to a private non local concession company. Locals tell me nobody has been hired, and nobody is really taking care of the site yet. They are supposed to be renovating but we haven't seen any activity. The enclosed outdoor pool has not been prepared and is full of murk on May 25th. You can still swim in the ocean pool, and we have seen many enjoying the water there. It is a gorgeous location, so I hope it works out but do not plan a trip to the island for this activity unless you call ahead to confirm it is up and running."

"I was lucky to visit the pool twice. A pleasant way to warm up & relax. The volunteers are very friendly & helpful.
Bring the volunteers a treat, they deserve it!"
