The immaculate maintenance and serene atmosphere are frequently highlighted, making it a must-visit for many. Some note the hilly terrain and potential crowds, but overall, the experience is overwhelmingly positive.
"A stunning place that feels like an Asian-inspired botanical garden. Even though there were quite a lot of people, the grounds are so spacious that you can almost feel like you have it to yourself. On top of the beautiful nature, you’ll also find impressive art installations and even a small museum with modern art. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Funchal and want to do something different than lounging by the pool or going on hikes."

"These are the most beautiful gardens we’ve been to. We arrived here via cable car from down in Funchal center and then we explored up here for the day. The gardens are kept immaculately and there are a lot of different gardens so you feel very secluded. This was definitely a highlight of our trip. There are lots of places to have snacks and sit down to admire the views and the terrain is quite hilly and cobbled."
Maya
"Beautiful place. Japanese style garden that's worth the visit......well maintained, some interesting exhibitions on top (art, minerals). When you spend your day exploring Funchal, we decided to do the garden in the morning, take the sleigh ride down the hill to Funchal city, walked around downtown and went back up the hill by cable car. A great day out and a nice change of scenery between hiking days."
