"A Torre da Alfândega, um dos mais emblemáticos monumentos de Guimarães, foi inaugurada a 03 de agosto de 2024, após período de requalificação.
Esta intervenção preserva o património histórico de Guimarães e valoriza a experiência cultural dos visitantes, especificamente das muralhas da cidade, relevando a importância deste monumento nacional no legado histórico da cidade berço de Portugal e da inscrição simbólica no pano da muralha: AQUI NASCEU PORTUGAL.
A entrada é gratuita e feita pela rua do Anjo. Possui um elevador que permite o acesso a portadores de mobilidade reduzida até ao terraço da torre, que oferece vistas sobre vários pontos importantes da cidade.
A torre será transformada num espaço público, dedicado à exposição e interpretação das muralhas e torres defensivas, com a nova estrutura a incluir um acesso vertical com uma volumetria circular distinta dos muros existentes, reduzindo o impacto visual. O projeto previu também a manutenção e interpretação das pré-existências, como a fachada voltada para a rua do Anjo, tratada como uma ruína. A nova fachada da torre foi feita de zinco, sem aberturas, exceto no piso de entrada. Internamente, existem espaços expositivos em todos os pisos, exceto no subsolo, que abrigará instalações sanitárias e armazenamento."
