Beat the Passport Control Queues

Lisbon Airport's passport control can be notoriously long, especially during peak times. Look for signs with the e-passport logo for dedicated lanes, which are often significantly shorter. Arriving early is crucial, as some travelers report waiting for hours. TikTok+2

Navigating to the City

While taxis are available, many travelers warn of potential 'long way' scams from airport taxis. The metro is a convenient and cost-effective option, directly connecting you to the city center. Ubers are also a popular alternative. Reddit

Once you get off the plane, look for the signs for customs, there will also be a line. Look for the signs with the American flag and that e-passport logo on it and go there! Lisbon has a separate section for e-passports with the logo on the signs and the lines are much shorter.

Reviews Summary

Lisbon Airport is a clean and modern facility with generally polite staff, particularly noted for their helpfulness in security. However, it struggles with organization, leading to confusing signage, terrible information displays, and notoriously long queues at security and passport control. Food options are overpriced, and seating can be scarce during peak times or delays.

"The airport is clean and easy to navigate. We went in via terminal two so it was modern and used the Ryanair express baggage drop off which worked well. The roads coming into the airport, especially the roundabouts are not for the faint hearted!

Shout out to security who were brilliant with my three year old and the lady especially was so kind when she got a bit nervous after accidentally touching the sides of the Xray machine. They are the reason for the 5 stars! Once through security, passport (also very friendly) and out it to departures there is a good amount of seating and food options. TBH the food looks better than it tastes and of course you have to re-mortgage when buying for the family. When we went to the gate we found that we were delayed. There was not enough seating so we ended up on the floor with a small snack store for company. This would have lost them a star of it wasn’t for security. Overall it is clean modern and efficient."

"⭐⭐⭐ When your gateway to beautiful Portugal feels like organised chaos with a side of confusion

Humberto Delgado Airport perfectly captures that "we're doing our best but also absolutely winging it" energy that somehow feels very Portuguese 🤷‍♂️ The terminal itself is decent enough, but the operational side feels like someone forgot to update the manual since 1995.

Information displays are genuinely terrible - gate changes announced with all the advance notice of a surprise party, and good luck finding reliable updates about delays. The signage could use serious help too; navigating feels like a treasure hunt where X marks "maybe your gate is over there?" 🗺️

Security and check-in processes seem designed by someone who's never actually travelled. Queues snake around with no clear system, staff often look as confused as passengers, and don't get me started on baggage claim efficiency. The food options are overpriced airport standard, and finding a quiet spot to wait is nearly impossible during peak times.

Portugal deserves better! Simple fixes: better digital information systems, clearer signage, streamlined processes. The country is magnificent - the airport just needs to catch up! ✈️"

"Lisbon Airport is very convenient because of its location close to the city center, but it really struggles when it comes to organization. Long lines at security and passport control are common, and the layout of the terminals can feel confusing, especially for connections.

There are some good points: the staff are generally polite, there are shops and food options, and transport links to the city are excellent with metro, buses, and taxis right outside.

Still, for an international hub, it feels overcrowded and outdated at times. It works, but it could be much better with more efficiency and better passenger flow."
