What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Levada dos Maroços for its easy, flat terrain, making it a great family-friendly walk with charming views of local life and gardens. Some disappointment was noted regarding litter found along the path, detracting slightly from the otherwise enjoyable experience.
"Nice walk! It’s quite flat, so great for (young) kids. The part we walked (almost to the end) had a few narrow and slightly steep sections, so kids need to stay alert. Definitely not suitable for strollers.
Parking is free – just leave your car in the small village near the start. The first 10 minutes go between houses, but then you’re out in nature. The trail is more open with lovely views, but that also means less shade, so bring hats and water on a sunny day.
The only downside: we were a bit disappointed to see some rubbish people had left along the way. Such a shame, because otherwise it’s a really enjoyable and family-friendly levada walk."

"We walked 11 km because there is no sign where trail end's. Maybe it will go much further but for us that was enough. Nice view's of a local life, gardens, house's. Not much of a mountain view's but still pretty nice. Easy flat walk. No need hiking shoes but of course don't go with white sneakers."
Dimis (Dimiz)
"I suffer from vertigo, so after research this walk seemed to fit the bill. The immediate drops are manageable, basically a max of 1-2m down into a field of potatoes. Met 1 person at start of walk heading back who couldn't cope with the vertigo, so if you have severe vertigo it may not be for you."

Navigating the Levada
While the immediate drops are generally manageable, individuals with severe vertigo might want to exercise caution. The path winds through a mix of residential areas with houses and gardens, transitioning into more open natural landscapes. This variety provides a pleasant visual experience throughout the walk.
It's important to note that the trail can be exposed to the sun, so planning your visit during cooler parts of the day and bringing adequate sun protection is highly recommended. The path crosses several small rivers, often via charming triangular stepping stones, adding a unique element to the journey.
