What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors are captivated by the unique geological phenomenon of the Pedras Parideiras and the stunning natural beauty of Serra da Freita, including the Frecha da Mizarela waterfall. However, many feel the site lacks sufficient informative support and can appear somewhat neglected, diminishing the overall visitor experience.
"For a UNESCO site, it feels somewhat abandoned and there's not much info around it either.
Beautiful views from Serra da Freita and interesting to see the stones, definitely a nice place for hikers. Just a shame it's a bit neglected."

"Amazing landscape and surroundings, you can see the highest mainland Portugal waterfall from there (cascata da frecha da Mizarela, ca. 70m high). The geological phenomenon per se is quite unusual.. I don't think there's another place in the world where this happens: there are some biotitic nodes inlayed in the granite rock formations that over millions of ears are eroded away, leaving the form on the rock. There is also the myth that the nodes themselves are a totem to getting pregnant. That's probably why no one is to be seen, only the concave void on the rocks. Potassium argon dating methods give an estimated age between 320 and 310 million years."

"The place is very interesting, however, there’s not enough informative support on site. It would be interesting if there’s some samples people could see and touch about these phenomenon. The small shop seems to be a place where the friends of the person in charge gather and tourists don’t feel comfortable inside due and leave as soon as possible."
