What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Torre da Cadeia Velha for its informative and welcoming staff, who are often multilingual. The tower's historical ambiance, combined with its role as a venue for rotating art exhibitions, makes it a delightful surprise for many exploring Ponte de Lima. The scenic river views from the upper levels are also a notable highlight.
"The attendant at the bottom was very informative and very welcoming. He spoke English, Spanish and of course Portuguese."

"Enjoyed very much. Beautiful place. "Ponte de Lima" was a very nice surprise."

"I saw it about 1990 before it was renovated when only the top floor was in use as the city archive. One big window overlooking the river was wide open and on the opposite wall the entry door was also held open and the breeze off the river blew through to keep the documents from moulding. I have forgotten the question my husband had asked at the tourist office that directed us their, but the person in charge was pleasant and helpful. The tower, which is part of the original city wall, retains it's spooky atmosphere from the days when it was a jail, but the main floor has been leveled and houses the city tourist office. The employees are knowledgeable and pleasantly helpful, and use up-to-date technical resources. The upper two levels house exibits of local artists which change monthly. The Torre is a great place to start a tour of Ponte de Lima!"
