The cable car itself is perched high on the cliff edge, and I’ll admit, there’s a real moment of trepidation as it rolls forward and then suddenly drops over the edge. For a second it feels like a vertical plunge — a straight line down the cliff face, and your stomach flips just slightly. But then… it smooths out. The motion is calm and steady, and you’re treated to one of the most spectacular views on the island. The Atlantic spreads out below you, cliffs rise up behind you, and banana trees and vineyards come into view far beneath. It’s both humbling and calming — that rare combination of adrenaline and peace.
Once at the bottom, you enter a different world entirely. Fajã dos Padres is quiet, lush, and unhurried — a secluded strip of fertile land nestled between cliff and sea. The pathways wind through gardens and vines, and you can smell the salt air mixing with warm soil and fruit.
