What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Boquerón Mangrove Channel as an excellent, free wildlife refuge ideal for walking, running, and mountain biking. The abundance of birds and the natural beauty of the mangrove forest are highlights, though some facilities and boardwalks are in disrepair due to past hurricanes.
"Excellent free wildlife refuge. A lot of birds in the area. I prefer it for walking or running. You see many MTB also in the area. They open Monday to Friday on Sunday when I went I parked in the front of the refuge because it was locked. You can walk or run 2-3 or 4 miles . Many piers to look from some are closed due to hurricane damage but thread carefully and you will have a great view. The first half mile has no shade but afterwards nice shaded area. If you are looking for a safe place that is pretty and has birds to exercise . this is it."

"Update 1-20-22. OPEN and well worth a 2 hour visit! We observed many species of birds and the mangrove forest is cooler inside than out. A very pleasant stroll. Most of the boardwalks are closed and need repairs. Bring binoculars and bug repellent."
Richard Hall
"Most facilities still closed due to hurricane Maria. The access roads are rough but well worth braving for the sightings of shore birds and the views from the lighthouse. No bathrooms... pee before you go!"
