"There a lot to do and see in this area and this statue is one of them. This is a great example of (they don’t make them like they used to). Best time to visit is at sunset & night to see it light up.
The surrounding view & atmosphere is amazing and romantic. There’s plenty of parking nearby and a nice optional pathway along the ocean to have a short walk to a pier and massive historic doorway.

Also visiting during Christmas is a great time of year as well as when they have small festivals or craft shows. If you want quiet, avoid these times of year."

The Symbolism of Raíces Fountain

The Raíces Fountain, designed by architect Miguel Carlo and inaugurated in 1992, is a powerful tribute to Puerto Rico's rich and diverse heritage. Its central figure, a goddess soaring skyward, embodies the spirit of freedom. Surrounding her are intricate bronze sculptures, each carrying significant meaning. A horse emerging from the sea represents Puerto Rico as an island nation, while a family group—two adults with a child—symbolizes the importance of the Puerto Rican family. Dolphins and a nymph speak to the island's renowned hospitality, and figures like a jibaro and a black woman highlight the influence of African culture and the resilience of its people. Together, these elements create a narrative of identity, history, and cultural fusion. Reddit

This artistic masterpiece was commissioned to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Spain's arrival in the New World, offering a contemporary perspective on the island's origins and its people. The fountain's placement at the end of the Paseo de la Princesa further enhances its significance, making it a focal point for reflection and appreciation of Puerto Rican identity. It’s a place where history, art, and culture converge, offering visitors a deeper understanding of the island's soul. Reddit
