What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors are drawn to the unique Film City ruins and the stunning desert landscapes, especially the sunset views. However, many express disappointment with the long, bumpy drive and the frequent unavailability of advertised activities, leading some to question the value of the entry fee.
"Lovely set up but is it worth the drive from Doha? I got excited when we made the turn to Zekreet by Cuban Hospital, thinking we were almost there. But then we spent an hour on a very bumpy dirt road that seemed never ending. Now, if you are going to stay at the Habitas Hotel, I would say the drive is worth it. But if you are just going for the day, no. While the landscape is beautiful and activations lovely, it is limited. I was looking forward to hot air balloon rides but they were not set up the day we went. There was traditional music, teas and food, but nothing impressive. You would find these carts at any food truck park in Doha (there are so many now). Walking around at the exhibits you can see weaving, henna and opportunities to create art - good for young kids but teens might be bored. The highlight for me was watching the sunset over the water from on a cliff. The beautiful, odd rock formations in the area are fun to climb if they aren’t roped off. And there are old forts built into them that you can’t go in but are interesting. A guide or plaque telling us who once inhabited these huts would have been useful. In summary - you will spend longer driving here than exploring the exhibit. Go to the resort if you can (it’s pricey)."

"It’s a nice place to relax, but I don’t think there should be a charge to get inside.
We booked two weeks in advance (50QR each) because it was selling out. We were particularly interested in the archery and the hot air balloon rides. However, neither of these was operating advertised.
There were two shows advertised (Camel and Falcon), but they weren’t really shows. Just observing the animals.
I really liked the Qatari music show though and liked walking around the beautiful grounds.
It’s not worth a 1h30 drive from Doha or the 50QR entry though without the advertised attractions."

"Waste of money, don't enter the site!!!
About 2hr drive from Doha including 30 min gravel road. The landscape along the road on gravel road was nice..however there is a checkpoint where you have to stop and pay 50rq per adult to enter the Dessert Escape site.. this, site is a dump, just a few food stalls very pricey food and drinks. Overpriced camel and pony rides. But nothing there inside the Desert Escape site (which you pay the money to go into). Nobody was inside when we were there, no hot airballoon. The resort which is separate and 10min drive away, is only for hotel guests and you can't even have a visit or eat in their restaurants. This is a bad set up. Not recommended."
