What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the absolutely stunning and vast panoramas of the Mafate circus, especially when viewed in the early morning light. However, many caution that arriving too late means missing the view entirely due to persistent clouds and fog. The challenging, winding drive up is also a frequently mentioned aspect, requiring careful navigation.
"So the Bellevue viewpoint itself is closed due to construction, you can park a bit further down the road and then walk up to the edge of the mountain between the construciton machines. We got there at 9 am, there were already clouds all over in the cirquit, we didn't see a thing.
The ride was one hour from St. Gilles, I consider myself an experienced driver, but this has got to my nerves. 34 kilometres in one hour, super curvy, you almost never see the car coming in the opposite lane, have to be very-very careful. Also there is heavy traffic in the morning."

"Great views, but arrive early to avoid the clouds."

"Vantage point of incredible vastness in the Mafate basin. After ten o'clock in the morning it's often very foggy, so you can't see much. This viewpoint is the only one in the area since the devastating fire in 2020. There are several parking lots, easily accessible by car. Come early and enjoy the stunning view!"
