Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Great Synagogue's stunning interior architecture and its deeply moving Holocaust museum. While the exterior is understated, the inside offers a breathtaking display of ornate details and historical significance. The site is highly recommended for its poignant exhibits and the respectful atmosphere, though some note the caretakers can be perceived as strict.

"Tourists need to more respectful, please.
The tour guide complained and made me aware that tourists come here quickly takes pictures and then leave. (Before I left, I bowed at the waist and I am not Jewish in any way).
The gallery shows the reality of the tragic Ha Shoah Holocaust in a balanced knowledgeable way and deserves respect and silence. I like that they also provide a pile of kippahs/yarmulkes to wear for respect as well.

He says that there is a tendency to rush like that and so he gave me an introduction to listen to. It was not even that long, it was a good length, knowledgeable. This man may have been slightly pressuring to be "respectful," charged me 30 lei for a few minute very short talk and small one-room museum. He seemed slightly strict and pressuring as if almost demanding pity. I do not know. What I do know is that this was an impressively and meticulously organized gallery that has a balance of heavy and factual and as part of the balance includes papers and poems."

"This place is a real jam of architecture miraculously survived the WW2. 30 LEI entrance fees absolutely worth the visit."

"This synagogue, called The Great Synagogue in English, is now primarily a museum. It tells the story of the Jewish community in Romania and commemorates the victims of the pogroms committed by Nazi-sympathising Romanian forces early in the Second World War. It has a beautiful interior, hidden by a rather bland exterior. Well worth a visit."
