"Sinoe Bay has an area of 135 square kilometers, a depth of over one and a half meters and is connected to the Nuntasi and Tuzla bays, which maintain their connection with the Black Sea, through a lock.
Sinoe Bay is a brackish lagoon located at the outlet of a freshwater stream, playing the role of a compensation basin and natural reservoir, its salinity being 15 g/l.
On the shores of Lake Sinoe, in the northern part of the current Istrian peninsula, are the ruins of the ancient city of Histria, built 2,600 years ago by Greek sailors and merchants, who settled in the sheltered bay of Halmyris to exchange salted fish, olive oil, wines, Greek ornaments and torches made from pine resin that grew around the city with the native Geto-Dacians, for the grains, honey, beeswax, hides and wood offered by the local tribes.
Sinoe Bay is part of the Razim - Sinoe Complex, housing numerous species of birds and fish, a complex included in the Danube Delta Biosphere Natural Reserve, which extends over an area of 3446 square km, of which 1145 square km are an integral reservation, included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991, being classified as a natural reserve and natural park in Romania."
