About 300 meters before Cabana Piatra Mare, on the way down from the peak, we saw a big bear on the left side of the trail, standing on a meadow about 30 meters away. At first it looked at us, then made a few steps in our direction, but after that it just went back to eating something in the grass. We kept moving carefully and everything was fine.

"Piatra Mare means the Big Mountain, but in reality this is a small mountain range in Brasov County, close to the town of Predeal. Its highest peak is at 1,844m and it is fairly easy to reach. There is a refugee close to the peak that offers food and shelter.
The mountain is famous for the Sapte Scari canyon (seven ladders), and it is composed by seven waterfalls, the tallest being 35m high. The trail inside the canyon is man made of a metal staircase and platforms. It is very narrow and crowded during the weekends, as the mountain has become an attraction due to the recreational activities and happenings, such as zip line, trekking and running contests."
