What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Bzerpinsky Cornice Trail for its stunning panoramic views from Sedoy Pass and the unique opportunity to observe chamois. The vibrant alpine flowers and rhododendron blooms in summer are a significant draw, making it a photographer's paradise. While rated 'Very Complex,' many find the hike to the pass manageable with proper footwear.
"The Sedoy Pass is the end of the eponymous hiking route that starts from the Black Pyramid station. Despite the fact that the route is categorized as Very Complex (black) and "guided tour recommended," the climb to this pass is not particularly difficult, both in terms of the danger of getting lost and in terms of physical difficulty. There is no trail to the pass as such, but the pass and the climb to it are clearly visible from the starting point (the cable car station). Anyone can climb the pass without special training or equipment - we have seen even children climb the pass. The only thing to keep in mind is that it is better to wear comfortable shoes, preferably closed and with a hard sole: part of the route must be walked on stones, part can be walked on a snowfield that does not melt even in summer (and the snow does not fall through). Part of the route can be dirty due to the proximity of the melting snowfield. When climbing, it is advisable to look closely at the rocks on the right (the ridge) - chamois can often be found there. They are used to people and can let you get as close as 30-40 m., and with good optics you can take beautiful pictures. After that, they slowly and with dignity move away somewhere higher, into the rocks. To the left of the ascent hollow, rhododendrons grow and from the end of June to mid-July you can see them blooming. The pass is quite steep, so when climbing to the top point, beautiful views of the Psou River valley and the Gagra ridge of Abkhazia quite unexpectedly open up before your eyes. At the top of the pass and further on the southern slope of the Aibga ridge in summer, there is a real kingdom of alpine flowers of all shades. Against the backdrop of mountains and flowers, excellent photos are guaranteed. Therefore, the climb here is certainly worth the effort and time spent. The way up with photography, playing snowballs on the snowfield, resting and contemplating the surrounding beauty on the pass, as well as the way back to the station will take an average of 2 hours. You can make a loop and return by a different route - go left along the path on the outer side of the ridge (you can climb a small peak to the left of the pass), go down to the next pass (Aibga) and return to the cable car station. In this case, another 40 minutes will be added."
