Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Annunciation Cathedral for its historical significance as the first stone church on the Kola Peninsula and its serene, spiritual atmosphere. The ancient traveling cross from 1535 is a highlight, offering a tangible connection to the past. While generally well-regarded, some may find visitor information or accessibility limited outside of service times.

"Perhaps at the end of the 15th century, construction of a church in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker began in the Kola volost, and the Monk Theodoret founded a monastery at the mouth of the Kola River with a temple in honor of the Holy Trinity for the Ust-Kola Lapps, whom he converted to Christianity. At the request of the same Lapps, Archbishop Macarius of Novgorod in 1532 sent a priest and a deacon here, who consecrated two churches here: in honor of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker (probably the one that began to be built at the end of the 15th century). Hieromonk Elijah served at these churches, who in 1553 consecrated the Trinity Monastery on the Pechenga River and tonsured its founder, the Monk Tryphon, into monasticism. The construction of these churches gave rise to the Kola parish, which for a long time was the only one for the Lapps of the Murmansk coast and inland Lapland. In 1684, a new cathedral was consecrated in the name of the Resurrection of Christ, with two chapels - in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and in honor of the Great Martyr. George. This cathedral was burned to the ground on August 11, 1854 by the Anglo-French squadron. At the end of the 18th century, it was decided to build a stone church of the same name instead of the dilapidated Annunciation Church. Catherine II donated 8 thousand rubles. for construction. Altars: main, cold - in honor of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, southern, warm - in the name of St. Nicholas, northern - in the name of Alexy, the man of God. The temple has survived to this day. The Way Cross is located inside the temple."

"In every Temple there is God's grace. The soul and heart respond to prayer in the Temple."

Людмила Самойлова

"1654 was mentioned in the triple with the Cathedral of the Resurrection and the bell, did not survive. Founded by order of Catherine 2. The first stone building on the Kola Peninsula. Inside there is a large traveling cross from 1535, it used to stand in the middle of the tracks, by the road and every traveler prayed, so the cross and the church are old and the prayed cross (it is large wooden, under the dome). On the side there is a very beautiful shop, purely wooden, and the premises of the church parish school"
